Welcome to Yonkers
“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride.”
FOR TOUR PARTICIPANTS
Sign-in and registration begins at 7:30 am at the Center for the Urban River at Beczak, 35 Alexander Street in Yonkers. ALL RIDES WILL BEGIN AT 8:30 am. The rides will take place rain or shine.
What you will need:
Besides a bike in working order (check it over the night before), make sure you bring a helmet (wearing one is required during the ride). We also recommend that you bring tire changing tools, a spare tube and pump, ID, medical card, cash or credit card.
There is limited parking available at Beczak and on nearby streets. Street parking meters are not enforced on Sundays. There are several public parking garages within a quarter mile of Beczak. The nearest is the Buena Vista Garage. http://www.yonkersparkingauthority.com/bva.html
Ride Safe - This is Not a Race!
Obey all traffic rules. Be Courteous and Signal Turns. Show motorists that we know how to share the roads. Pull Off the Road when you stop, even if just for a few seconds. The use of ear buds, radios or cell phones is strictly prohibited while on the ride.
Ride with a Group
The Tour De Yonkers is an urban ride on streets NOT closed to traffic. Riding with a group is safer and you will avoid getting lost. The 50 and 25 mile rides will each have 3 groups: a fast, medium and a slower group. Each group will have 2 or 3 group leaders. Pick a group that rides at your pace. If too fast, slow down and wait for a slower group or change at a rest stop.
If you plan on doing the 50 mile route, you must be able to maintain at least a 11-12 mph pace and must reach the 25/50 route split by 10:15 am in order to complete the route by 2 pm when the tour closes. After 10:15 you will be directed to the 25 mile route.
12 mile riders, go at your own pace.
There are support vehicles available. The helpline number is readily available on all rider’s wrist bands and cue sheets. If there is a serious accident or injury your first call is 911.
Routes and route marking
Cue sheets will be available with turn by turn instructions. You can also download the routes onto your phone or Garmin from our website:
The routes are marked with Tour de Yonkers signs and ORANGE arrows painted on the road.
The 50 mile route has two rest stops located at mile 18 and mile 36. The 25 mile rest stop is located at mile 16.
Post Ride Activities
Food and refreshments will be available at Beczak when you return and until 3 pm.
RIDE SAFE AND ENJOY !
